explaining how they can improve their answer if it is not correct.
Learning happens in different stages, like climbing a staircase. Students begin by remembering simple facts and gradually learn to apply that knowledge in ways that demonstrate deeper understanding.
Let’s use the water cycle as an example:
Remembering questions ask your child to recall information.
Example: "What are the main stages of the water cycle?"
(Answer: Evaporation, condensation, precipitation, collection.)
Understanding questions ask your child to explain concepts – how things work.
Example: "Why does water evaporate faster on a hot day?"
Applying questions ask your child to apply their knowledge in real life.
Example: "Why do we see puddles disappear after it rains?"
Analysing questions ask your child to examine how things compare.
Example: "How does the data show the impact of human activities on the water cycle?"
Evaluating questions ask your child to form an opinion based on their knowledge.
Example: "Do you think humans affect the water cycle? Why or why not?"
Creating questions ask your child to use the knowledge to come up with new ideas.
Example: "Design a model that shows the water cycle in action."
By encouraging students to move beyond memorising facts and ask "why" and "what if" questions, we help them develop the thinking skills they need to solve problems, understand the world, and become independent learners.
